root vs para user name

As you probably know, if a non-UI manager changes a value (like a driver), it is marked as changed from “root” as the user. “root” is going to become a very special user in the future, and we all should stop logging in as root for testing, etc.

There is another default user already created for projects called “para” (no password just like root). This is the user which will be used for GEDI, PARA and other development tools and functions like ASCII manager, etc. We should start using this “para” user and get used to using it before it the only way to use GEDI.

It is also very handy when you are trying to figure out if you changed a DPE vs. a CONTROL/driver/config entry changed the value last. It will be either root or para… you would be para the system would be root!

For either gedi or para from the Console, you can pass the password to avoid the login dialog. Here is the string for use on a windows computer for starting gedi:

-m gedi -style fusion -user para:

Be sure there is a space after the colon. That means the password is blank.
